Tune into your local Public Broadcasting Station (PBS) (KEDT in Corpus Christi) on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. as the Emmy award-winning Travelscope host Joseph Rosendo visits Port Aransas for an adventure on Mustang Island. Travelscope offers an enlightening and educational approach to the way you tour a city or country and travels the world seeking unique places to share adventures. With multiple award winning episodes under their belt, Travelscope chose Port Aransas as one of only 13 destinations to be featured in their fifth season for 2011.
Travelscope’s Fun on the Texas Coast captures the image of Port Aransas by boat, kayak, air, beach buggy and foot. Strolling along the shoreline with Tony Amos, a 34-year veteran of recording beach statistics, it is pointed out that the sea, shore, birds and atmosphere are ever changing yet connected. Kayaking the tranquil paddling trails and visiting with the locals and tourists in various venues portrays life in a simpler manner in this small island village.
Rosendo kicks back and relaxes on the beach, building a sandcastle with the local sandcastle guy, surfs the waves, and even dances to local music while flipping tortillas onto his head, a „Port A‟ tradition. Boarding the R/V KATY, The University of Texas Marine Science Institute‟s research vessel that is a floating teaching tool for many students, teachers and Road Scholar groups, Dr. Rick Tinnin explains the importance of why our oceans are vital to our everyday life.
After a successful day of bay fishing with a local guide, the fresh catch is taken to one of Port Aransas‟ many restaurants that will „cook your catch‟ just the way you like it.
