VFW Chili Cook-Off

VFW Chili Cook-OffI was surprised at what a big deal the 8th Annual Moore-McDonald VFW Post 8967 Bean and Chili Cook-Off was. Open to the public and held Saturday at 311 N. Alister St. in Port Aransas, the post’s back yard was filled with booths offering chili and beans, musicians playing and people sampling. All cooking was done on site and beans and chili had to be prepared separately. For one dollar, samplers got a cup and spoon and could get as many samples as they liked. It’s amazing the variety of tastes that can be concocted from a few simple ingredients. It was the first time I attended and I hadn’t expected this to be such a big event but I will be back next year.
