Starring… Port Aransas!

ARK Director Tony Amos

Animal Rehabilitation Keep Director Tony Amos will appear as part of PBS's Travelscope this fall

Lights, Camera, Action! The Port Aransas Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau announces that Port Aransas will be featured on Public Broadcasting’s Emmy Award-Winning show, Travelscope. Tune into your local PBS station this fall as Travelscope host Joseph Rosendo visits Port Aransas for an adventure on Mustang Island. Travelscope chose Port Aransas as one of only 13 destinations to be featured in their fifth season for 2011. Travelscope captured the image of Port Aransas by boat, kayak, air, beach buggy and foot. They strolled along the shoreline with Tony Amos, a 34-year veteran of recording beach statistics, to point out that the sea, shore, birds and atmosphere is ever changing, kayaked the tranquil paddling trails and experienced life in this small island village. Rosendo kicked back and relaxed on the beach, building a sandcastle with our local Sandcastle Guy, tried his hand surfing and even danced to local music while flipping tortillas onto his head, a Port A tradition. He jumped aboard the R/V KATY, the University of Texas Marine Science Institute’s research vessel that is a floating teaching tool for many students, teachers and Road Scholar groups to conduct research and learn the importance of why our oceans are vital to our everyday life. After a successful day of bay fishing with a local guide, the fresh catch was taken to one of Port Aransas’ many restaurants that will cook your catch just the way you like it.
