The $100 hamburger

La Barataria Restaurant in Port AransasLezlie Keebler tells me that her La Barataria restaurant has been awarded “five burgers” in The $100 Hamburger guidebook. This is their highest rating. A “$100 hamburger” is a general aviation pilot in-joke, slang for a short round trip. A “$100 hamburger” trip usually refers to flying a short distance (less than two hours), eating at an airport restaurant and flying home.  John Purner’s book is a guide to pilots’ favorite “fly-in” restaurants. La Barataria is within easy distance of the Mustang Beach Airport. If you don’t want to walk, the restaurant will come fetch you.
